The video below was made when Arras was at version 1.4. Since then, Arras has moved off to newer versions with many, many changes.
Since the process for adding the thumbnails remains the same, the video still remains accurate with one exception – the name of the thumbnail box has been changed from “Post Thumbnail” to “Featured Image”.
However, in order for the posts to appear in the frontpage slide show, There is some additional setup that is needed.
First, you’ll need to select the categories of posts which will be displayed in the slideshow. Refer to the screen shot (taken from Arras 1.5.0.1) to find where that option is.
Second, you’ll have to make sure that the posts you want to appear in the slideshow below to one of the previously selected categories.
There have been a lot of question on the Arras forum board about how to add post thumbnails, which appear in the featured slideshow on the homepage.
A lot of people on the forum have helped and for the most part questions have been answered quickly, however, the same problem keeps coming up time after time.
So, I’ve decided to make a simple screencast to show exactly, how it is done. The screencast is how I added the post thumbnail to this very post. I hope Arras users will find this helpful.

Thanks for posting this video. I am wondering if you have any advice.
Thanks again for the quick reply. I watched the video and there are 2 places on the admin in the video that don’t appear to exist in my admin options.
To the right of the post editing section there is no option to add “thumbnail” and at the bottom of the screen when uploading an image there is no “add as thumbnail” option.
Is it possible there is something wrong with my installation?
Would you mind to look at http://www.hallwater.com?
Thanks so much! I am happy to donate if I can find a solution to this.
Erink,
The post thumbnail feature was new in WP 2.9.2. If you are running an older version of WP, you’ll have upgrade to get the latest WP version.
I also see that your website has the look of Arras 1.3.6. Are you running the 1.3.6 version or are you using 1.4.2 with the legacy stylesheet?
If you are running 1.3.6, you’ll have to upgrade to 1.4.x to get the integration.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can help more?
Thanks for the help, but…
If you choose this Arras theme for an existing blog that already has a lot of posts you are SOL when it comes to showing your thumbnails on the front page or in the categories.
Manually creating a thumbnail for each post? Why can’t it do it automatically like the “Magazine Basic” theme?
Is there a plug-in that will create the thumbs in one shot?
Marc,
Unfortunately, I don’t know of a way to do this automatically. I haven’t tried the “Magazine Basic” theme but I’ll give it a shot and, may be, suggest some functionality on the Arras forums.
thanks for the video…
Thanks – thumbnail bar on right now called featured image, and in the edit box too, but exactly what I needed. Great template!
I wonder if you could be so kind to have a look of my site

Any tutorial step by step to make it from the beginning?
in my language(italian) i do not find anything.
What do you suggest me? thanks in advance for yr support.
Patrizia,
It looks like you have changed the settings on your site to have a static page be your homepage.
In your Admin panel, go to Settings -> Reading. At the top of the page, there will be a setting which lets you select what your front page displays. Make sure you’ve selected “Your latest posts”.
Hope this helps.

I don;t know where should i post my comment but i really like your design and i was wondering if you could teach me how did you display the most popular and most commented post on your home page. I am a newbie in wordpress. On the admin page you could only choose categories and stickied post from the dropdown.
