It figures that sooner or later someone would have done something like this!
Someone has created a website which scrubs twitter for post which include location information about where you are and when you left your home. The Please Rob Me website shows a list of all recent posts which contain information about users leaving their homes, where they currently are, and how long ago they “checked in”.
I am sure that the reasoning behind creating such a site is user-awareness – “You should be careful because look what I can do if you are not”. However, dollars-to-donuts, actual robbers and criminals are going to make use of such neatly gathered and compiled information.
On the other hand, it’s not Twitter’s or Please Rob Me’s fault that people are dumb enough to be posting such things. After all, you wouldn’t walk up to random people and just announce that your house is empty and where it is located, would you?
