I read an article on Slashdot that the PS3 has been hacked and the exploit has been posted on the hacker’s blog so others can run with it. The cool thing is that the hack bypasses the Hypervisor allowing unrestricted access to the hardware. This opens up the possibilities a lot since now hackers will be able to use the full potential of the Cell processor. I know of one occasion where not being able to use the Cell has been a stumbling block – using the PS3 as a MythTV Frontend. It would be really cool if the MythTV devs can get around those limitations, especially since I have a PS3 which still supports installing alternative OSes.
